Whisky Whiskey is a video podcast about my exploration of Whisky in all of its forms.
The sixth and final Cape Byron offering in this week of Byron culminates in a truly outstanding Single Cask offering…the Tawny Cask Single Malt. I also look at some of the requirements for becoming a B-Corp Certified company that Cape Byron worked very hard to achieve. In the end though, what can I say about this Whisky? I love a good Port finish, but is next-level yummy.

This episode I do a side-by-side-by-side review of three incredible 15 Year Single Malt Scotches…the Tamdhu, the Glendronach and the GlenAllachie. This review is perhaps the toughest I’ve ever attempted since they are all so very, very close in terms of balance, palete, mouthfeel, nose and finish. It was extremely difficult to pick a winner, but pick one…I did. I also answered the bonus question…if you could only afford to buy two of them, which one wouldn’t you buy? My conclusion may surprise you.

Today I pit the mighty Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak against the upstart of sorts, the GlenAllachie 12 Year Single Malt Scotch Whisky. In the short time they’ve been running, in relative Scotch terms of course, the GlenAllachie have made a name for themselves in making great, Sherried Whiskies. They don’t colour or Chill-filter their Whiskies either and with Billy Walker taking over several years ago have been going from strength to strength. Is it enough to knock the Macallan 12 off it’s perch? Let’s find out…and brace yourself for this one.

With the benefit of many months of tasting experience and a broadened palate, I look again my first Scotch love…the Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak. Is it as good as I remember? And now that I have a rating system…where does it actually sit, as I see it today?

Having got my hands on a sample of the famous Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak to try (the 2017 release) I dive into and review this monumental Scotch Whisky. There’s so much hype surrounding this dram…surely it can’t possibly be that good? Well, perhaps it is…and if it is that amazing, will it get a 5 out of 5 and make me question my life choices? Let’s find out…

The strongest Macallan offering in terms of ABV the Classic Cut defies Macallans own self-classification, not falling in their Classic Collection and a confusing use of the word CUT in its name. So the naming and positioning is a bit strange, but how’s the dram? I experiment with a precisely watered down version of my 2023 sample and review the same Scotch, at 40% ABV and then at 50% ABV as bottled side-by-side and the results might just surprise you.
