Whisky Whiskey is a video podcast about my exploration of Whisky in all of its forms.
Day Three of Cheap Week, where I have a strict budget of $50 or less for a 700mL Bottle in the Australian Market, I set out to prove whether it’s possible to find a good Scotch you can drink neat and enjoy…or whether you’re wasting your time. The Label 5 Classic Black Scotch is another own-brand of Woolworths/Dan Murphy’s…but is it better than the 1495?

It’s been quite the journey for me over the past year…okay really mostly the past six months but we’re going to do this anyway! I go over everything I’ve learned about my own palette and preferences covering types of Whisky I like through to glasses I use. Most importantly I list off my favourite Whiskies for under $100 AUD across the four types of Whisky I’ve sampled the most in 2024.

Having reviewed the 16 year Single Malt on Episode 2, I was curious what the entry level Bushmills blended Whiskies were like. When visiting the USA in September 2024, I nabbed a gift pack of the Original, Red Bush and Black Bush samplers that I brought back home. I start with a post-review of the Original then try both the Red and Black Bush to see which, if any, are worth your time.

The Kentucky Spirit is an 8 year aged, apparently, Bourbon from my favourite Bourbon Distiller…Wild Turkey. It was this Whisky ironically, that kicked off my recent journey into Whiskies. I review the Spirit and also touch on what makes a Bourbon, a Bourbon.

Having tried the 10 year last episode, I dive in and check out the 16 year to see if it’s worth the extra money. Additionally I look at all of the Scotch regions, why they exist and whether or not you should pay any attention to Scotch Region definitions at all.

The Tomintoul Distillery on the Glenlivet Estate tout themselves as being The Gentle Dram. I test this statement and also cover some of the history behind The Glenlivet Estate and its various distilleries over the decades.
