Having just bought the Ode’s without trying them, I was relieved when the Valley was quite alright. The second most expensive and the hottest offering, their Ode to the Dark, is the next on my list to try. Maturation in Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks certainly sounds like my kind of Whisky…there’s only one way to know…

AOB are a small Distillery in Mullumbimby in Northern NSW, only a 2.5 hour drive from where I live. I’d never heard of them before until I tried this sample from an Advent Calendar I picked up last year. Their Single Malt Ausskey was matured in a Pinot Noir cask and the result left me wanting more.

Amber Lane are an Australian Distillery a hour North of Sydney and they make some unusual Ausskey’s, including the Equinox. It’s fair to say that this Ausskey shocked me at just how good it was. I look at their still design, the Mary Rose, as well as their brief history and their insistence on longer aging and how it’s paying off for them. This one, is a cracker!

Some online, self-proclaimed aficianados aren’t fans of Dalmore for their use of colouring and filtering in their offerings, so when I had the chance to try the 12 Year Sherry Cask offering, I went in with modest expectations. It’s an interesting dram and I look a little bit into the naming and branding of Dalmore, their production and yes, whether the haters were right…or if they were wrong…

The Glenmo-10 is well known as the foundation of most of Glenmorangie’s offerings and what a base it is! I review the popular dram whilst the 10 Year offering is still available, as they are moving to a 12 year base in coming years. I also talk about the popular Dr Bill Lumsden as well as Dan Crowells commentary on Wood management and their investment in Oak plantations, their lease arrangement with Jack Daniels and how air-seasoning works.

The summary episode of the Johnnie Walker Core Range series is my ranking of all seven offerings listed in two dimensions. The first, if money is no object and the second, which is the best value overall? Which will take the crown? The Red, Black, Double Black, Gold Reserve, Green, 18 Year or the Blue?
