Whisky Whiskey is a video podcast about my exploration of Whisky in all of its forms.
On my trip to New Zealand in July this year, my son and I stayed near Christchurch and while there I stopped by at the lovely Whisky Galore store. They had so many I would have liked to have grabbed however this bottle caught my eye. I grabbed it, had some of it while I was there but couldn’t bring it home to Australia with me, so just brought back a sample. I’d tried and enjoyed the Batch 6 at a Whisky Club night last year…how does the Batch 11 compare?

The final sample from the Loch Lomond pack comes out to play as I review the Loch Lomond 18 year. I also do a deep dive into Barrel Influence on maturing a Whisky relative to first fills, second fills and more, as well as how the ABV of the prior liquid impacts the wood over time and where the flavours from the Barrel are coming from. The 18 year…does NOT disappoint.

One down from my Loch Lomond sample pack, we move to the 12 Year. I also touch on Mit Farbstoff, and do a deep dive into why Oak is so popular for making Barrels, the different types, how it’s prepared, plantations of Oak trees and more. Oh, and I also review the Scotch!

Having picked up a sample pack of Loch Lomond a few months ago, it’s time to try them starting with the Original. I discuss Chill Filtering, what it is and why Distillers do it, as well as some background on the Loch Lomond Distillery.

It’s been quite the journey for me over the past year…okay really mostly the past six months but we’re going to do this anyway! I go over everything I’ve learned about my own palette and preferences covering types of Whisky I like through to glasses I use. Most importantly I list off my favourite Whiskies for under $100 AUD across the four types of Whisky I’ve sampled the most in 2024.

Having reviewed the 16 year Single Malt on Episode 2, I was curious what the entry level Bushmills blended Whiskies were like. When visiting the USA in September 2024, I nabbed a gift pack of the Original, Red Bush and Black Bush samplers that I brought back home. I start with a post-review of the Original then try both the Red and Black Bush to see which, if any, are worth your time.
