Whisky Whiskey is a video podcast about my exploration of Whisky in all of its forms.
On my trip to New Zealand in July this year, my son and I stayed near Christchurch and while there I stopped by at the lovely Whisky Galore store. They had so many I would have liked to have grabbed however this bottle caught my eye. I grabbed it, had some of it while I was there but couldn’t bring it home to Australia with me, so just brought back a sample. I’d tried and enjoyed the Batch 6 at a Whisky Club night last year…how does the Batch 11 compare?

Having got my hands on a sample of the famous Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak to try (the 2017 release) I dive into and review this monumental Scotch Whisky. There’s so much hype surrounding this dram…surely it can’t possibly be that good? Well, perhaps it is…and if it is that amazing, will it get a 5 out of 5 and make me question my life choices? Let’s find out…

The strongest Macallan offering in terms of ABV the Classic Cut defies Macallans own self-classification, not falling in their Classic Collection and a confusing use of the word CUT in its name. So the naming and positioning is a bit strange, but how’s the dram? I experiment with a precisely watered down version of my 2023 sample and review the same Scotch, at 40% ABV and then at 50% ABV as bottled side-by-side and the results might just surprise you.

My exploration of GlenAllachie continues with a review of their 15 Year Single Malt. I look at how GlenAllachie differs from other distilleries and then I try to discern if Billy Walker has once again Blended a masterpiece.

GlenAllachie are renowned for their Sherry Bomb scotches so I just had to try some of their offerings, starting with their 12 Year Single Malt. I also breifly touch on the modern history of GlenAllachie and how Billy Walker used the proceeds from his BenRiach departure and sale of Glendronach to buy into this fledgling Distillery, and then transform it into a formidable Distiller of Single Malts in only a very short period of time.

My exploration of Tamdhu concludes with a review of their 15 Year Single Malt. Renowned as a Sherry Bomb to rival Glendronach and Macallan, I test that reputation. I also dive into Saladin Boxes for malting, and the reinvention of Tamdhu as a Single Malt brand, tracing the history of the 15 Year offering. Does this make me smile? Hell yes it does…and then some.
